Sensitive teeth after whitening - tips and solutions

Do you have sensitive teeth after whitening and are you really annoyed about it? Logically! Sensitivity in the mouth is a common problem that many people experience after a whitening treatment. In this article we look at why teeth can become sensitive and share effective tips and solutions to reduce this sensitivity.

What causes sensitivity after teeth whitening?

Whether you whiten your teeth at home or at the dentist, it can lead to temporary sensitivity. The cause often lies in the bleaching agents used, such as hydrogen peroxide. This substance temporarily makes the teeth more porous, making you more sensitive to temperature changes and certain foods. Super annoying, but luckily you can do something about it!

Tips to reduce sensitivity

  • Use a toothpaste for sensitive teeth - these toothpastes have been specially developed to combat sensitivity;
  • Avoid extreme temperatures - try to avoid hot or cold drinks and foods while your teeth are sensitive to avoid worse;
  • Soft toothbrush - use a soft brush to avoid irritation of your gums and teeth;
  • Rinsing with fluoride mouthwash - fluoride helps strengthen tooth enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity;
  • Limit acidic foods and drinks – citrus fruits and acidic soft drinks also worsen sensitivity, so avoid these if you can;
  • Use Clearsmile - Clearsmile does not cause irritation to gums and no sensitivity to your teeth!

Should you call a dentist if your teeth are sensitive after whitening?

If you have sensitive teeth after whitening, this is often temporary. If the sensitivity persists and/or the pain gets worse, it is important to call a dentist. They will rule out that something else has gone wrong and may recommend treatment if necessary. It is of course best to prevent problems with your teeth, so choose a formula without hydrogen peroxide and prevent a sensitive mouth!
